SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for delivering high-quality patient care using the nursing
process, which includes assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. 

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) assumes the responsibility for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Physician in the patient care area.  
 

REGISTERED NURSE (RN) PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Direct and coordinate all aspects of nursing care in accordance with established nursing
    standards, conduct comprehensive patient assessments based on patient condition, and monitor patient condition and communicate any changes to healthcare staff.
  2. Initiate or assist with hospital codes and CPR interventions as required.
  3. Administer medications and IV fluids as ordered by a licensed provider.
  4. Collaborates with other health care providers and provides education to patients and/or families (while in compliance with HIPAA). 
  5. Document all assessments, care provided, medications administered, and patient responses accurately in the EMR.

 


LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE (LPN) PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Has considerable knowledge of the care and treatment of patients and special procedures that apply to practical nursing.
  2.  Performs direct nursing functions under the supervision of a RN or Physician.
  3.  Administers medication as ordered by Physician.
  4.  Collaborates with other health care providers and provides education to patients and/or families (while in compliance with HIPAA).

 

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Attend staff meetings, with at least 70% attendance, to stay updated on policy and procedural
changes.
2.    Participate in mandatory in-services, safety drills, and continuing education activities.
3.    Adhere to hospital dress code, attendance policies, and behavioral standards.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

1.    Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
2.    Current and active RN or LPN license for the State of Alabama.
3.    Current CPR or BLS certification; ACLS and PALS preferred.
4.    One year experience as a RN/LPN in a hospital setting preferred.  

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

1.    May be exposed to the risk of communicable diseases and radiation.
2.    May require handling of unclean or infectious materials.
3.    Normally works in a well lighted, well ventilated area.
4.    Must be able to work under the stress and conditions that normally exist in a hospital setting.
5.    Classification Category I – Tasks that involve exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.
